Courtney and Justin are engaged! After dating for 5 years, Justin popped the question and now they’re planning a Tampa wedding day. I had the joy of meeting up with Courntey and Justin for their University of Tampa engagement photos this year. We had a great time exploring this beautiful campus along the waterfront and heading down to Davis Island beach to wrap up our evening together (with the most glorious sunset!). Their University of Tampa engagement photos were classic and elegant – just like this wonderful couple!

Their Love Story 

Courtney and Justin circled each other for years during their time in school at USF. She was in graduate school and he was there for undergrad. But, they constantly attended the same events and chatted – but never really synced up to date. However, the universe had other plans and they managed to match up on Bumble! That was in 2018 – and at the time, it still almost became a miss. Courtney was too nervous to reach out but Justin extended the response window on the app and she happened to notice, so she messaged him! They went out on their first date, to c.1949 and a walk around Hyde Park Village – still one of their favorite places to go all these years later. 

The Proposal 

In August 2023, nearly 5 years after their first date, Justin saw a perfect opportunity to propose. There was a small window when both of their families would be in Tampa at the same time, so he saw it as a sign. Justin arranged for lunch at Saint Pete Pier and as soon as the group arrived, he got down on one knee and finally proposed to Courtney – like he’d been dreaming about for years! Everyone was there to celebrate as she said yes. Looking back, Courtney says that she knew it was coming – thanks to his hint to get her nails done and that she thinks she saw the box in his pocket that afternoon. But it was still so special and beautiful! 

University of Tampa Engagement Photos

We decided to meet up at the University of Tampa for their engagement session. This is one of my favorite spots in the city (see my 25 Best Engagement Photo Locations in Tampa and Central Florida) because of it’s gorgeous architecture and the stunning landscape. There’s so many trees draped in spanish moss around the campus! Courtney and Justin showed up looking incredible – her in a long white gown and his tan linen suit. I loved the dressy vibes they brought and it really matched the personality of the grounds. 

Davis Island Beach Engagement Photos 

After a quick outfit change into a more casual, beach appropriate outfit, we headed to Davis Island beach. I love that it’s so close to the university, making it a wonderful second location option for photo sessions. Courtney and Justin enjoyed a small picnic, including a bottle of champagne to pop, as the sun began to set. Since they love being outdoors, it seemed like the perfect option for their session. Honestly, it was just so fun! The sun began to set and we lucked out with a dramatic sunset that was perfect for some silhouette portraits.
